Common Law Marriages in Florida
A "common law marriage" is one in which the parties may hold themselves out as a husband and wife for a certain period of time, and under certain circumstances, be deemed married without a marriage license or ceremony. Florida abolished common law marriages in 1968. However, common law marriages entered into and valid in other states may still be recognized in Florida.
